Swim Team
Congratulations for a great effort by the YAWAMA Dragons for a strong 2nd place finish at the Oregon YMCA State Championships. Led by Emily Stevens two new team records in the 13-14 100 and 200 backstroke and the high pint performances by Tate Wegehaupt and AMber Chase the team swam it's best meet of the season with dozens of best times and great finishes.
Way to go to the Dragon high school swimmers who had a tremendous district weekend. Samantha Oliszewski (Sherwood), Carrie Dehning (Sherwood), and Tate Wegehaupt (Tigard) all won district individual titles and join several team mates at the OSAA State Swimming Championships. Both Sherwood girls and boys team finished 2nd at their conference meet and Southridge boys with Eric LoPrete won the Metro boys title. Good luck to all Dragon swimmers at state. Coach Debra Mandeville was named Boys Coach of the Year for the Northwest Oregon Conference. A well deserved honor as her boys finished the regular season in second place and they don't even have their own pool.
Julia Bush set the 50 free and 100 IM team records at the Chehalem Shark Chase Invite in January. These led the team to some great individual efforts and many great times. Check them out in the results section.
The Wall of Honor continues to evolve with the addition of the YMCA National Qualifiers. We are happy to honor those athletes that have led the team from the past and set examples for those in the future. Thanks to Sherwood Swimming Association for their generous donation to the board.
Participation in YAWAMA Dragons builds lifelong skills. We have open tryouts for the team on any Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Come on down and join the excitement.
