Swim Team
Participation in YAWAMA Dragons builds lifelong skills. This is a great resource for official team clothing and accessories.
Congratulations
The YAWAMA Dragons placed the highest they have ever placed at the 2009 YMCA Regional Championships. They finished 5th overall and 1st in the Medium size team division. Thirteen team record and two regional champions (Amber Chase and Paige Simkins) along with Noel Scudder, third time regional champion, highlighted the meet for the Dragons. Check out the Results and Records to see our newest record holders.
The Sherwood Swimming Association along with the Y ran a great meet for the second year in a row at the Aquatic facility at Mt Hood Community College. Congratulations to them for all of the organization and hard work they gave to make the meet run smoothly for the kids. A special thanks to Brandon Drawz and his staff who do a wonderful job of keeping this world class pool in tip top shape. Without him and his staff nothing like this could be brought to Oregon.
Congratulations to Sage Wegehaupt, Paige Simkins and Sam Hunker on their performances at the Oregon Swimming 10 and Under Championships. They all put out great efforts with Paige and Sam placing at the meet and Sage and Paige bettering their own team records.
The Dragons in High School just finished their own seasons with the High School State Championships. The Sherwood boys returned to the trophy podium with a 4th place team effort and the girls finished with 13th place. The boys 200 free relay team of Noel Scudder, Galen Peterson, Jordan Bigam and Nthan Ranno set a new team record twice during the meet and nathan lowered the 100 free record that he shared with Dominic Rieniets. Tate Wegehaupt (Tigard) and Amber Chase (Southridge) swam on relays and Tate swam and individual event. They both represented their schools with tremendous racing.
Good luck to the 30 Dragons that will be traveling to Mt Hood Community College March 6 – 8 for the YMCA Regional Championships which is being co-hosted by the Sherwood Regional Family YMCA and the Sherwood Swimming Association. The 30 entered represent the largest Regional entry the club has ever had. If you would like to volunteer to help contact Coach Maxwell at mmaxwell@ymca-portland.org or 503.625.9622.
